Rhode Island State Police Promotions and Awards Ceremony

     Providence, R.I.-Governor Donald Carcieri and Col. Brendan P. Doherty, Superintendent, R.I. State Police, presided over the R.I. State Police Promotion and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in the Atrium of the Rhode Island Department of Administration Building.

 

     Twenty-three state police members received promotions, and two state police members received special commendations. 

 

     In addition, Sandy Riojas, was recognized with the Colonel Everitte St. John Chafee Award for her work in the R.I. State Police Community Outreach Program which involves reaching out to inner-city youths and building relationships between the state police and minority and immigrant communities. 

 

     The award is the highest award given to a civilian. “I am filled with a great sense of accomplishment and pride when working with the men and women in the R.I. State Police.  There are many of us who are very proud of them.  We appreciate the work of Colonel Doherty.”
